I’m curious, do you use Reminders or another app for your grocery list? Do you just throw things on it like I used to do? Do you have one big list or lists by store? Let me know in the comments. For each subtask I set a location-based reminder so that when we’re near that particular store, say Costco, I get a notification that we need something. In these cases, I have an “Other” section at the bottom of our list and list those special buys as subtasks. However, Aldi doesn’t always have everything we need, or we just prefer to buy certain things at other stores. I mentioned earlier that we primarily shop at Aldi. In these cases, I delete the duplicate to keep the “Show Completed” from becoming a cluttered mess. Worth noting here, I tend to add things throughout the week as we run out, so occasionally I end up with two copies of those staples (the completed one, and the incomplete one I added through Siri). If I see something we need, I’ll uncheck it. This gives me a running list of things we’ve added in the past, making it an easy trigger list to see staples I might have missed. When putting together the grocery list, I toggle show completed. Using Show Completed When Making the List This means that as long as we’re paying attention, we can go through the store in one direction without having to double back for an ingredient. Actual grocery items are then listed as subtasks. Because we generally shop at the same store, we have headings for each section of the store (in all caps so they stand out), organized in the order of the store. I’d say the biggest change to how we use our shopping list came with iOS 13’s introduction of subtasks. This makes it easy to check what’s on sale when I’m making the list. It syncs with our recipe manager, Paprika.Īs Reminders has evolved to include new features, so to has how we use it for our shopping list.Īt the top of our list, I keep a standing reminder that just includes a link to the weekly store ad for the grocery store we normally shop at, Aldi. This means we can both add things to it throughout the week, and we both have access to the list depending on who actually does the shopping. It can be shared between myself and my significant other. We’ve been using Apple’s Reminders app as our shared grocery list for years now. The nature and degree of parental scaffolding, i.e. All the author's proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the Child Mind Institute.Research has been demonstrating that, in addition to age dependency, early child-parental interactions can affect the early development of childhood narratives and can explain differences in children’s later reported event descriptions. Drawing on Dr Koplewicz's decades of clinical and personal experience, The Scaffold Effect is a compassionate, smart and essential guide for the ages. If your child's building and your scaffold are on the same level, you can speak directly, look each other in the eye, and keep the lines of communication open. The person on the roof will have to 'talk down' to you or yell. Stay on their level: Imagine being on the ground floor of a house and trying to talk to someone on the roof. Any effort to block or control growth will actually stunt it. Empower growth: Skyscraper or sprawling bungalow - the style of your child's construction is not up to you! Scaffold parenting validates and accommodates the shape the child is growing into. From this supportive base, your will forge a bond that will survive adolescence and grow stronger into adulthood. Explaining the building blocks of an effective scaffold from infancy through young adulthood, he expertly guides parents through the strategies for raising empowered, capable people, including: Lay a solid foundation: The parent-child relationship needs to be made from the concrete mixture of emotional availability, positive reinforcement, clear messaging, and consistent rules. In The Scaffold Effect, world-renowned child psychiatrist Harold Koplewicz introduces the powerful and clinically tested idea that this deliberate build-up and then gradual loosening of parental support is the single most effective way to encourage kids to climb higher, try new things, grow from mistakes and develop character and strength. Never-ending parental problem-solving and involvement can have the opposite effect, enabling fragility and anxiety over time. Just as sturdy scaffolding is necessary when erecting a building and will come down when the structure grows stable, good parenting provides children with steady and warm emotional nourishment on the path toward independence. Siegel, MD, author of The Whole Brain Child Prevent and counteract the general anxiety and emotional fragility prevalent in children and teenagers today - a new parenting philosophy and strategies that give children the tools to flourish on their own. ' A master synthesizer of attachment science, medical practice, and his own experience as a father, Harold Koplewicz capably and compassionately leads us through the art of scaffolding, from early childhood through the important adolescent period. Existing Typekit plans will have to upgrade Adobe clearly targets designers now – and yes, they made it much easier for us using their fonts as creatives – but harder to recommend hence use the web service for client work. So there are ways, but it still feels a little fishy and even unprofessional to recommend a client using their web fonts this way. If you sign into Adobe Fonts with an Adobe ID that has no subscription, you’ll see which fonts are included in the basic library. The basic library is a small, limited selection of fonts, formerly Typekit Free. So if a client would purchase a subscription for this individual product (for approximately 72 € a year), then they can use all the Adobe Fonts, for web hosting and even for desktop syncing.Īnd there is still a basic library that comes with a free Creative Cloud account (without any subscription). Now Adobe Fonts are included in all subscription plans of all products, even in the cheapest (which is InCopy). The cheapest Typekit plan costed around € 50 per year, a Creative Cloud subscription could cost up to € 60 per month and that is clearly an unreasonable amount of money for a client if they only want Adobe to host web fonts and don’t need the applications. After that time, your client would need their own Creative Cloud subscription to use for the web font hosting. The Terms of Use currently permits agency reselling, until December 31, 2019. With the recent developments Adobe will only allow you to use their web fonts on your own personal or company website and not for client websites: No more web font hosting for client websites Unfortunately, with the shift to Adobe Fonts, this will no longer be possible. In the beginning, I served web fonts for my clients via my Typekit account, but with the years I switched all of them to their own paid Typekit plans because I always want them to be as independent of me as possible (especially when it comes to technical infrastructure). For eight years it was my go-to place for finding and hosting web fonts for client work. It offered an ever-expanding collection of mostly quality typefaces and transformed web typography for me. Here are some of my thoughts on this and what you can do. And Typekit is no longer available as a stand-alone paid service. The downside is, that using Adobe Fonts for client websites just got harder for it won’t be permitted to host them in the near future. This brought some great advantages to all Creative Cloud users, like no more limits with syncing desktop fonts, web font pageviews, and domains. Late 2018 Adobe announced that Typekit is now Adobe Fonts. library, cafe, on the plane) where I don't want to dig/search for my stuff and can't lay my items out. The Brown Buffalo Conceal backpack seems to fit this bill nicely, but I want an organization-compartments-counterpart to the clamshell backpack, which may be more ideal if I'm working in a public area (e.g. It shouldn't be such a tight fit that I struggle to get items in and out. The backpack I'm looking for would contain the bare essentials (a "get-things-done-only" backpack): a laptop, ebook reader, notebook, 16/24 oz water bottle, laptop charger, a tech pouch, and one of either a small lunch or a hoodie or light jacket. I thought the Fit Pack 2 was similar in dimensions as the other 2 Aer backpacks for some reason, but based on the product specs, it is actually very slightly bigger than the CPL 24 so that's out of the question. If I don't need to do any of these things, I can carry less, hence my search for a smaller and potentially slimmer bag. I'm somewhat concerned it does not have a small/slim enough profile to be able to also wear in public transportation like a subway without garnering attention due to occupying too much space in a crowded environment. The CPL 24 would be more of a "city-exploring" backpack-it is more roomy for allowing the possibility of a quick and light grocery trip, carrying camera gear, or a weekend trip. In general I think I prefer a clamshell backpack for more internal storage (I'm already getting a CPL 24 as a general EDC and plan on getting a Brown Buffalo Conceal as a smaller minimal EDC), but I think a backpack with more organization for times when I'm carrying mostly tech stuff and trying to be productive on-the-go can be more useful.īesides these Aer backpacks, I'm also considering the Axiom 18 and the new Axiom 24, the former of which appears to fill the same niche. I feel like it can carry a hoodie if necessary, whereas the other 2 backpacks will struggle in this regard. The Fit Pack 2 is in consideration simply because it seems to have the most space and has the advantageous of clamshell backpacks where it has a single large internal space but still has just enough(?) tech compartments. I'm having a hard time deciding between these 3 bags-the Day Pack seems to be slightly more appropriate at first glance, but the Flight Pack 2 apparently has more internal space and better organization. I'm looking for a minimal EDC with enough organization while having good internal space for a bag of this size (which should be similar if not smaller than the Brown Buffalo Conceal which I will be getting as well). Take a look at the review for our King Kong Plus 26 and Edge 35 review videos.I'm considering between one of the Aer products: Day Pack, Flight Pack 2, and Fit Pack 2 (the Tech Pack is out of the question as it seems too big). They’re more gym lifestyle, and I think they might be a little bit more up your alley. You will want to check the review of… I actually have two King Kong backpacks- the Plus 26 and the edge 35. Is there something more CrossFit, I’m a gym person, and this bag reflects my lifestyle?” If you’re interested in that pack, take a look at the description, watch our full review.įinally, you also might be thinking to yourself, “Dude, I need a gym backpack, but this is just too urban for me. It’s called the Modern Dayfarer Backpack. If you’re looking for the opposite, we’ve got the perfect pack for you. I think this one’s gym first, everyday carry/tech second. This also might not be the pack for you if you’re thinking to yourself, “Dude, actually, I go to the gym sometimes, but I’m looking for a great tech/everyday carry first and a gym backpack second.” If that sounds like you and you want to check out our full review, watch it here. It’s kind of like the same thing, it’s just bigger.
